POUND FOR POUND

First and foremost I'd like to congratulate GSP for his dominating and very entertaining performance Saturday night. Matt Serra was obviously affected by the crowd and never really got going. GSP did exactly what a champion should do...dominate. Whether you believe Serra got lucky or was a true threat, GSP destroyed "The Terror" the same way he dominated Matt Hughes...the greatest Welter weight of all time.

I'd also like to thank Rich Franklin for taking care of business. Rich "Ace"
Franklin is the best 185 lb fighter in the UFC...possibly the world...right behind Anderson Silva. I hope Franklin gets one more title shot. Other than Okami, no other fighter in the UFC deserves a shot at Silva yet. I do believe Franklin vs. Silva would sell out and make the UFC money...I just wonder if Franklin would take the fight. Silva has owned him...twice...that really messes with a fighter’s confidence. You also have to wonder what Rich would do if he lost again...where would he go from there. None the less...I'd like to see them go at it again.

Overall UFC 83 was very entertaining...even the Quarry-Starnes debacle...what was his problem? Still despite the track meet...Quarry saved the day with his Erkel impression and entertained the crowd with his fighting skills and sense of humor! Maybe a Franklin-Quarry rematch? Just a thought.

Okay on to the meat: Let's just pretend for a minute. Few can disagree that Matt Hughes was one of the greatest and most dominating 170 lb fighters in the world...ever. Let's pretend Matt Hughes is at top form. You know...the Hughes that dominated GSP the first time they fought. In his prime...standing 5'9"...weighing in at 170 lbs...and Hughes is a very big 170 lbs. He enters the ring to the roar of a very enthusiastic crowd. Now let's pretend the heavy weight champ...a beast of a man standing 6' tall and weighing 233lbs enters the ring...his name...Fedor Emelianenko. The bell rings. Matt Hughes is now a vegetable.

Arguing who's the best "pound for pound" fighter in the world is purely for entertainment purposes. Urijah Faber will never meet Randy Couture in the ring...just not gonna happen. Getting all upset because one person says fighter A is the #1 pound for pound and the next guy says his favorite fighter B is #1 is laughable. Common...this is why there are weight classes. Yeah I'd like to see an Anderson Silva vs. GSP super fight...that would be amazing...but Dana White would not let them fight at a catch weight...if he did it wouldn't be a title fight. This would mess with the integrity of each weight classes belt. Moving Anderson Silva down to 170 lbs would be a bad move. He's already a super lean and skinny 185 lbs. I think he'd lose too much strength trying to make weight...probably gas out early too...especially at GSP's pace. If you ask GSP to move up to 185 he'd be dominated...he'd lose some of his athletisism, his admitted biggest strength. Also GSP is 5'9"...
Anderson is 6'2"...GSP would have a very hard time getting inside of the middle weight striker.

To tell you the truth, I'd rather watch both these men dominate and destroy all comers in their respective weight classes. There are plenty of fighters in the world for these two guys to fight. I think the UFC just needs to sign some new talent and not make every fighter sign exclusive contracts. Com'on Dana...let's make those super fights happen. The UFC will always be the dominating promotion...as long as it keeps evolving.

Fights I'd like to see:

GSP vs. Jon Fitch - Jon Fitch is the #1 contender...he's proven to be a handful. Great match-up.

Silva-Franklin III -
Franklin has beaten everyone else. Could the third time be a charm?

BJ Penn vs. Ken Florian - If BJ gets pass Sherk, Florian is obviously the next man in line.

Liddell-Jackson III - If Chuck fights like he did vs. Wandy...Scary good fight.

...and of course Couture-Emelianenko - this fight NEEDS to happen!

Can't wait to see:

Urijah Faber vs. Jens Pulver - Jens has passed his prime but he's hungry. Faber's biggest test to date.

Rampage vs. Forrest - I really think
Griffin can beat Jackson. It will be entertaining!
